The DeForest Norskies boys’ golf team opened the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) State Tournament at regionals inside the friendly confines of the Lake Windsor Country Club on Tuesday, May 26.

As a team, the Norskies finished their day shooting a 317. According to the WIAA, the top four teams in each regional advance to sectionals. Unfortunately for DeForest, the Norskies’ 317 was just a hair shy of a sectional berth, where they finished in fifth place. They were just three strokes behind Mount Horeb, who advanced to team sectionals with a 314.

While the Norskies did not qualify as a team, they did, however, have two of its own qualify as individual selections. According the WIAA, the top four individuals, who are not members of a qualifying team, advance to sectionals.

Representing the Norskies at sectionals will be senior Parker Bilderback and junior Nolan Hottmann. Both Bilderback and Hottmann shot a 78 on the afternoon to receive the individual qualifier nod.

Additional scores from DeForest at its regional include a 79 from sophomore Kolby Herschleb and an 82 from senior Blake Lovick. Sophomore Connor Jones’ 84 was not scored.

Both Parker Bilderback and Nolan Hottmann will now head to sectionals, which will take place at the Reedsburg Country Club on Tuesday, June 2. If they are among the top three scorers amongst individual qualifiers at their sectional, they participate in the State Tournament on Monday and Tuesday, June 8-9, at UW-Madison’s University Ridge.

WIAA Regional Scores: Middleton (292), Madison West (298), Waunakee (299), Mount Horeb (314), DeForest (317), Verona (326), Madison Memorial (357), Madison East (175)*.
